Sometimes my dad brings strange new stuff into the house, like this hybrid fruit. It's a mix of pear and apple; the shape and curves of a pear and the taste and crunchiness of an apple. I don't know what's the long term health effects for eating this, but heck with it it's nice. Takes longer time to finish than an ordinary apple though.

I've Been Tagged
Dear Jan,
I don't really know how to tell you this, but I'll join the monastery. I think I realized it when we skinny dipped in women's clothing and I saw you sit on Bill Clinton. I'm sure you're cowardly enough to understand that I did a sex-change. I'm returning the couch cushions to you, but I'll keep your suicide note as a memory. You should also know that I told my psychiatrist about eggplant-fetishism.
With ease, Ham

Blogger on the Move
I'll be busy traveling around much parts of central to southern region of Sarawak, so K4L updates will be slow. Would be nice to have a full wi-fi coverage (or even full phone signal coverage) on this island. I'm still contactable though, but I would have to decline several reunions if I'm not in Kampua Town. I forward my regards to old buddies, and enjoy holidays. Cheerios~
Cats Behaviour 102
Everytime I go back, the furballs at home just gets more and more in terms of quantity and personality. I'm not really fond of being surrounded by cats, but playing around with them and comprehending their personality is a good stress reliever. And they never cease to amuse me. Take Simei here for instance. This puffy grey Himmy is always looking for any types of baskets, or ANYTHING that even have the polygons of a basket for him to laze in. He'll even stare at full tupperwares figuring out how to get in. So to save him the trouble a blue basket is readily available for him, after the laundry in the basket is done anyways.
And yes, we welcome more new faces early this month. It's not a new thing to have kittens everytime I go back home, but this time it's dead creepy. One of the kittens EXACTLY resembles one of the dead cat who passed away years ago, color scheme, marking, vocal and all (it's the orange/white one in the picture below). Talk about "I'll be bach!" Now I'm gonna wait for another new one, supposedly bearing orange/black tiger scheme, to learn to walk then see his/her personality.
The Mukah Bad 'Back Breaker' Road
The Sibu-Mukah journey used to take 1 hour 30 minutes a few years back. Now from Sibu-Selangau it's 45 minutes and Selangau-Mukah it's 2 hour's ++. The despicable road condition is well-known for frequent Sibuian and Mukahan travelers, so bad that Sibu doctors advised pregnant mothers from Mukah to either just take the 2 hours boat journey from Dalat or to just stay in Mukah. No 4x4 is safe, not even buses as many of these vehicles can be seen decommissioned and parked by the side of whatever is left of the road. Hell, there's even a road collapse a few minutes after the first ladang that was immediately repaired, saving thousands of locals from being cut off. Here's a few pictures from the infamous Back Breaker road to show how bad Mukah road is, and to ward off would-be first time travelers from becoming the next victims.
Kancils, Vivas and even Hiluxes would be ravaged in the treacherous roads ahead. Haha good luck!
Level 1 Easy difficulty pot-holes. Bicycles won't pass this though
Level 2 Medium difficulty puddled holes. Causes nasty turbulence to any vehicles
Level 3 Hard difficulty sink holes by the roadside. Careful or that Kancil might turn-turtle to the side
Level 4 Insane big assed craters. Even the drivers of the biggest lorries in Sarawak will stop, contemplate, think, analyze and only then go around these monstrous holes
Level 5 Deadly Loch Ness-like lochs. Not so scary until it sucks your wheels into the abyss
Level 6 WTF Flowing tream in the middle of the road. A sign that this part of the road is breaking apart soon, slippery too
Level 7 OMG the road is below sea level. MAY CONDEMN YOUR ENGINES
Level 99 Jalan putus la! A completely devastated part of the road that is being reconstructed. Damn I think this is equivalent to Vietnam or Iraq during their wartimes...

Now I'm not sure whether real actions have been taken, and whether the complaints from the rakyat is being heard, but one thing for sure is this;
PLEASE BUILD A NEW ROAD FAST! PEDIH BEKAWANG AKOU!

Riders on the Storm
This is teh sheet... as you can see from drivers in front, turn on your emergency lights because it works more effective than normal lights.
Traveling has never been so dull now that Sarawak is experiencing its annual monsoon season. Hell, it's a challenge driving along the roads in Borneo with winds shaking your 3.0 4x4 with near zero visibility. And it's more scarier when driving at night. Fortunately nothing happened during the travels, but I did came across a few not so fortunate drivers who became victims of the freak storms that caused unwanted drifting for reckless speeders and a chain accident whenever big trees come crashing onto your hood. For those driving on the Borneo highway, drive slower than 80Kmph, turn on your emergency lights despite the radio DJs advise against it and if you can't handle it, just park by the roadside until the storm subsides. Braving through such storms requires a lot of stamina on the steering wheels, and don't go all bravado just so you can reach your destination on time. It's angry mother nature here who is reminding us who's in charge. Here's a song for all travellers on the road out there, Riders on the Storm by The Doors. Man man lai.
Shoe Attack!
The infamous shoe attack on the President everyone seems to love. It's a, what, size 10 shoe? And the angry journalist missed! But can't blame his inaccuracy because President George Walker Bush seems like a pro dodging it, a lot of shoe throwers in his life I guess.

Lessons in Marketing #21: Use Logo That Perfectly Symbolizes Your Company & Goals
Sometimes, some people happens to forget about that when designing their corporate logo. Like this bank here found in Kuching during my travel:
Mister Potato: Cheapskate Chips
There's no need to master statistics or physics to calculate the amount of chips in this bag of air. All you need is a pulsable thumb and feel the height of the content.
Dammit! RM3.00 for this?
Dammit! RM3.00 for this?
I would have my craving for chips, any kind of scrumptious crunchy chips, from time to time. And from my 20 years of experience, Mister Potato has always been my bane. Sure it tastes nice, but the induction of price and reduction of content made this strange mustachioed farmer (Mexican?) logo-ed potato chips puts it at bottom of the list. This has been going on for quite a few years now, and like the physics concept we learned in primary school 'udara memenuhi ruang', Mister Potato have become more of a bag full of air that ballooned each year, pushing the chips's space and content lower and lower under pressure. I wonder if the same is happening to Mister Potato outside of Malaysia. Oh well, while waiting for them to improve I'll have my hand stuck in the tight Pringles can reaching for the last few chips OR buy those expensive imported ones that comes with >70% content.
P/S: Why isn't Mister Potato in Wikipedia? Hmmm....

If I Chop My Arms Off, They'll Grow Back Right?
The answer is no, Captain Obvious. Go ahead and see for yourself, but I can guarantee you it's one helluva lovely dismemberment experience :)
It's common knowledge that losing any part of our limbs will result in turning oneself into a permanent amputee, and luckily nowadays we have artificial limbs to help replace the ones we've lost. But what if we can grow our body parts back? Like this newt below:
Well from the video the amphibian has uber cool regeneration ability to grow back lost limbs, like the G-Cells daikaiju fans can see in Godzilla (hence explaining his high survivability rate per movie). Mammals had it too, and white mice have shown that ability in labs. And when mammals was mentioned that includes humans. We USED to be able to regenerate limbs but we lost that ability a few million years back now that we have immune system that suppresses any regeneration. Well I'm not studying in this field to be credible enough to give liable infos, so go check this out for further readings. Who knows one day we might just need a hand.

World Today: Kiss of Deaf and Handshake of Death
BEIJING (Reuters) - A young woman in southern China has partially lost her hearing after her boyfriend ruptured her eardrum during an excessively passionate kiss, local media reported Monday.
The 20-something girl from Zhuhai, in southern Guangdong province, went to hospital completely deaf in her left ear, the China Daily said, citing a report in a local newspaper.

“It is well known that shaking hands, as is our custom, can spread cholera, especially at public gatherings like funerals and weddings,” Health Minister David Parirenyatwa said in a telephone interview today. “We are urging Zimbabweans to uphold high standards of personal hygiene in our effort to curb the outbreak.”

And oook next we have handshakes of death... I guess for health reasons its best to not give handshakes or perhaps other body contact. However I do wonder how business deals are going to be finalized (usually handshakes with smiles towards the camera). Hope things will be better in Zim soon. Sounds like a lot of things are going on there, from the 11.2 million percent inflation and now this cholera outbreak.

Dec. 8 (Bloomberg) -- Zimbabwe advised residents to avoid handshakes and body contact in an effort to curb the spread of a cholera epidemic that has killed at least 565 people.“It is well known that shaking hands, as is our custom, can spread cholera, especially at public gatherings like funerals and weddings,” Health Minister David Parirenyatwa said in a telephone interview today. “We are urging Zimbabweans to uphold high standards of personal hygiene in our effort to curb the outbreak.”

Wow I've heard of kiss of death but kiss of deaf is new. LOL some deafeningly passionate moments those two were having there. Good news the girl is going to get her hearings back in two months time. Apparently this kiss isn't new at all in the medical lexicon, it happens sometimes when passion meets physics. Extreme vacuum and pressurized suction physics mix with all those Bernoulli's principles and what nots. To all couples out there be careful when making out, I know some of you extremist *cough* fool *cough* are savage enough to perform this act of passion. Also, take precautinary measures for other types of kisses as well, like make sure you brush your teeth and eat chewing gums after eating durians before you go for the Frenchy. "Muackzzzz... haaaahhh... smell that durian bebeh? yeaaaaahhhh..." now THAT'S A KISS OF DEATH FOR DURIAN-FEARING ANG MOES!And oook next we have handshakes of death... Star Wars: The Force Unleashed
One of my mate's been intro-ing and reminding me to buy Force Unleashed for the PS2 upon returning home for the long holidays. And so I did. And I was :O at much of the game's unleashed aspects which are being unleashed. Here's the teaser to give you some insight on what Force Unleashed have to offer:
So you play as Starkiller, the secret apprentice of Darth Vader in what seemed to be an effort to help Vader to kill the old bag Sith Lord aka the Emperor. Vader trains Starkiller kill and destroy stuff in order to prepare him to defeat the Emperor, teaching him many things about the Force that the Jedis won't teach. These includes the Repulse, the dual hand electrocuting Sith Scorch, bringing down the Empire's big ass cruiser and my favourite the black-hole-ish Maelstorm, basically no limitation in the name of unleashing the Force (well, until your blue bar runs out anyways then you can't do anything, but the bar recharges fast).
Apart from the fancy Force powers I noticed that the game is reminiscence of another action packed and fancy-powered game; God of War. FU did not appear to look like any other game until I reach the boss fights. To finish a boss you'll need to press the buttons shown on screen to execute the finishing blow, much like GoW. And as I mow through a room full of Stormtroopers with my Force lightning, I remembered using the same tactic in GoW using Cronos' Rage which is an electrifying AoE as well.
But putting those aside, FU still has its own unique appeal. The environment is now fully interactable AND destructible. After destroying much of a control room you can use your Force to pick up the rubbles, computers or whatever and throw it towards the injured Darth Vader (ooops spoiler :P). And the one-on-one lightsaber fights with the bosses is epic; from the way you go into a lightsaber deadlock to how the bosses counter Force the damaged power generator you just threw at him. The physics' realism makes everything complete. But sadly I finished the whole thing in 5 hours 44 minutes (and got the bad ending siot), and the game feels shorter because you will re-visit the same places in the game (e.g. Playing in the Jedi Temple 3 times on 3 separate occasions, with indistinguishable layouts each time). Nonetheless I give the game an 6.5 out of 10 and recommend it to other fellow gamers out there, both fan and non-fan of Star Wars. Unleash my Force >:D

Murder in Jackfruit Village
Wow, in Sin Chiew daily the news about the murder in my quaint village here dominated a majority of the newpaper's content, hell it even made the landslide tragedy a small issue by the side of this murder news on the front page.
Well at first I didn't notice anything amiss because ambulance sirens blaring past my house is not unusual. Then when I found out someone was murdered I was WTF because this village is known for its passiveness, and only makes a hubbub when there are houses burning or a new 12 feet monster croc being captured and etc. I thought the financial crisis was taking its toll on the people here making them kill each other because of money-stress. But the murder involved a wife killing the hubby after she could not stand his abuse anymore. A bit like J.Lo's movie Enough. The murder was more of like self defense so I'm not sure how the wife is going to be trialed, seeing she got 7 kids and all.

Bukit Antarabangsa Landslide
Condolences to the people who loved their loved ones in the tragedy. Read the news here.
It's not the first time such tragedy have happened. One was dated back to the early 1990s, and from there onwards dozens of landslides have occurred to date, bringing down bungalows and condos down the hills along with their residents. Not to point fingers or anything, but after a few landslides and the infamous 1999 big one, shouldn't we learn by then that the hills don't want humans to encroach them? Not to be a pagan or anything, but from Melanau liko and basically other natives' common sense, if the land keeps 'kicking' you out then it's time to move on to other spots. The hills don't want us humans to settle on their settlements. Hands down.
From the follow-up reports, several mini news amused me. Like the wild boars scavenging the rubbles of the tragedy site. Um, why would wild piggies scavenging for food enter the news? It IS a hill with a natural ecosystem in it. And about the food that is found not rotten at the site long after the tragedy, most likely a few residents have a habit of having dinner delivered to their doorsteps, hence the 4A address inscription on the plastic bags. Imagine the delivery boy going to the bungalows and found it in rubbles. What did he do? Drop it at watever is left of 4A because that is his job and he don't wanna go to hell for laundering off someone else's paid food. Those are just theories, minus all the people's habit of linking all the strange news to something mystic.
And then the news about the army taking into custody 3 men who suspiciously wear army fatigues and transferring stuffs into a van. Well, yeah it is a right move since the trio could be thieves taking advantage of the chaos but I was LOL and WTFBBQed when the trio was brought up to the Police Chief, only to be revealed that they ARE Myanmar's army/police/volunteers (forgot which one) coming over to Malaysia to help out. Oh my goodness, don't the authorities here know who are the people coming into the country trying to give help? Is there anyone keeping track on things in the operations? Next thing you know they'll arrest WHO or the Red Cross for being foreigners meddling with the rescue operations. Siot. But oh well mistakes happen.
With all the rain pouring, I hope proper actions are taken before more lives are taken away. I HOPE. Because like what this lady affected by the tragedy said "The government will only take actions when things happen, but when they say 'kerajaan akan mengambil tindakan', that means they won't take any actions". Double siot.

When to Service Your Car
Most things get old. Music gets old. Clint Eastwood gets old. And so do cars. Just like us human beings that need this medication, that therapy etc etc as we grow older, our vehicles too require servicing now and then. I went to SUNLUN the other day to get several things serviced to my maturing Getz, from the dust clogged air-con filter to the defunct cigarette lighter (I don't smoke, just needed it for my FM modulator since I've stopped burning CDs). Whilst at the service center, I managed to read the When to Service Your Car notice board back in the garage. So here's a few pointer;
When to Change:1. Oil Filter
- Change every 5000KM or 3 months
2. Fuel Filter
- Change every 10000KM or 6 months
3. Gear Oil
- Change every 20000KM or 1 year
4. Automatic Transmission Fluid Filter
- Change every 40000KM or 2 years
Radiator Treatment:
- Flush and add every 10000KM or 6 months
Wheel Alignment and Balancing:
- Align and balance every 10000KM or 6 months
Brakes:
- Clean and adjust every 10000KM or 6 months
- Chang brake fluid every 20000KM or 2 years
NOTE: The recommendation applies to whichever comes first (either the kilometer on the odometer first OR the age)
Unusually Hot
Isn't it December? Correct me if I'm wrong, but in the secondary school Geography they told us Malaysia is supposed to be experiencing the monsoon season where everyone will get wet and sing songs like Raindrops Keep Fallin' On My Head, Blame It On The Rain, Have You Ever Seen the Rain and the Korean pop sensation Rain's Rainism. But from what I can see it's bloody scorching hot for the past 3 days, and I feel like something is wrong with this town if we take into account on what's happening in the rest of Malaysia (rain, flood, lanslides etc.). Owh and where's the flood? I was expecting Sibu to experience it's traditional King Tide floodings.
Sibu Road Expansion
We're gonna have a wider and bigger roads in Sibu soon! Well maybe not better, considering this is a sinking swampland so those expansions may last a few years until the first sink hole appears and damages my car's skirts, again.
But hey it's good to see the people's taxes are actually being used on things the people actually need. However I'm just concerned about the jams the constructions cause, not to mention the proximity of those huge 31530 lbs KOBELCO excavators to your driving seat and the usual slow men at work. Talking about slow, if my 128Mb RAM memory serves me right, the constructions along these stretch of road have taken place for almost 3 semesters. That means each time I come back home for the semester breaks or week frees I'm bound to see the ongoing construction. Well, man man lai, no need to rush anyways. I'm rarely here in Kampua Town, let alone driving on these roads :P
The sky is often beautifully cloudy with the "it's going to rain" look, now the roads are in a beautiful mess aligned with dumptrucks, excavators and dotted by slow men at work. What a sight.
Hardy-har-har. Look at the traffic jam the constructions caused. One can earn big profits here selling drinks or 4D results.
"Hey watch where you dump those parit dirt!" The closeness of you with these massive machines makes one to have second thoughts about the worthiness of washing cars.
Woooo... the houses which have the walls close to the roads are badly affected. What was once green patch of landscape has turned into this, um... this.... well from the picture it looks like a truck carrying fertilizers just got invovled in an accident and spewed its content al over the place.

SCR Express
I think it is about time Singapore Chicken Rice come up with a new re-branded branch. The old green and white SCR is getting a bit 90s (yeah that's how long I could remember it existed in Sibu and anywhere else in Sarawak, long enough to the point that the tacky Sibuians assimilate it and came up with SCR - Sibu Chicken Rice). Now this new branch-off here is known as SCR Express.
The black-red theme of the restaurant suits the younger folks who find the color to be the 'in', and I dig those colors too. The food is ingeniously Western-ish too (the portion of the mugs and size of the chickens are ridicilously large, and why is my rice pointy?) and a mix of Eastern (see the mee goreng in the mini wok?). Pricing wise, yes it's surprisingly South-East Asian pleasing price, with the food ranging from the RM3-RM5.90 mee and chicken rice to RM13-RM27 for the fish & chips, lamb chops, chicken chops and whatever chops out there, excluding the pork one (yea it's a halal joint chaps).
This SCR Express is located in Kuching, near Satok. And the good news mentioned by the Sibu SCR manager training at the restaurant for 3 weeks is; another Express branch is to be open in Sibu.

ICT Expo '08
Haha I don't know why but some kids (including yours truly) tend to feel and block the air vent of the speakers at ICT expos
I've been anticipating this expo for quite some time because ICT expos attracts me like a moth attracted to the light bulb at night. Like usual the expo was held at the warehouse-converted Sibu Trade and Exhibition Center (STEC) and ran for 3 days from 28th to 30th November 10am to 10pm. I know I won't be able to make it to the expo in KL in December so this will make do.
I went there on the last 2 days; first day for scouting and second day for purchasing. Ok la, the prices there were reasonably discounted, slashed down around RM20++. I didn't buy on the second day because I wanted to see if there were anything that interest me and the most important thing, this:
On the last day prices are sliced down even more, and even more insanely sliced on the last hours. So I went there during the zero hours and bought a few stuff I wanted; USB joystick, a new cooler and an FM modulator all under RM100 in total. Catching a retailer packing up or those that clearly wanted to go home are the best to predate on and bargain bargain bargain. Bargaining off RM1-5 is ok, but getting RM10-20 off from an already discounted hardware is satisfying :D
I wanted the green USB joystick (picture blur because it's from the joystick's box), but only 2 white models were left, so I just kebas one. Took me 20 minutes to finalize which joystick to buy, because there's 2-3 put of 10 models that interests me, siot XD
And here's my machine that is slowly turning into a mini gaming rig. It's not much but at least it's a mobile and easily-packed rig. Now that I got a chunky joystick (love things chunky, explains why I have chunky stuff XD), I can finally enjoy Grand Theft Auto San Andreas to the max since I'm used to playing it on the PS2. The only regret I have; now I sleep with blinking and lively blue, orange and lime lights from all the running hardwares. Gee, they really enjoy putting LED lights don't they?
