Nintendo Wii vs Sport Vii

The ultimate console war has not ended, choose a side...

I went back to Kampua Town for a quick retreat before finals the week after. And like usual, I had another stroll around town to see what's up. Like usual there's nothing much up, except there is no flood this time around. Then I spotted this. First it was the iPhone that got copied the day after its release and now this. Which one would you like to buy?

Requiem Aeternam Dona Eis, Domine

I'm still getting flashbacks and backlashes that brought me down from time to time lately. So is the man who has tasted sour defeat from all the stresses from his insane sixth semester. Reminded me of my old favorite quote "I only have two hands". All those setbacks are methods to remind me that I'm still a mortal human being, not some fearless brute called Ghost of Sparta (come to think of it, some of the events this semester resembled the first God of War storyline hmm...)

Just pause the K4L player if you're in the mood for this song

Anywho, thanks for all who had given support. Thank you fellow brothers & sisters. And thanks to my macha Dhiren for this song dedication
because the next day it got stuck in my head haha (and please la macha, after this song don't play Benni Benassi Satisfaction, really potong steam siot. And you didn't have to put in my name in the dedication, double siot)

Windows XP Tricks: 慡慡戠扢挠捣搠摤摤

Bush hid the facts, 慡慡戠扢挠捣搠摤摤?

This is a cool old trick/bug. Not useful at all, but just a FYI bug for all XP users.

Step 1

Open Notepad. Do this by Start > All Programs > Accessories > Notepad.

Step 2

Type bush hid the facts

Step 3
Save the file with any name anywhere. For me I'm gonna save it as Bush Trick. Close the notepad.

Step 4
Open the file. Voila!

It works with any of the formation of 4 characters space 3 characters space 3 characters space 5 characters e.g. aaaa bbb ccc ddddd or vote K4L for money. I'm not sure what's the cause since I'm not majoring in Programming. But it could just be an Easter egg :p

What If: We Are Under Communist Rule

There has been a fresh hubbub about Chin Peng's return to Malaysia and the government outlawing the Parti Komunis Malaya (Communist Party Malaya). So here is a fictional "What if" scenario; the PKM managed to help overthrow the Japanese invaders and hailed as the new hero. Supports were given from Soviet Russia but later from China after the USSR's dissolved. The Communist sphere of influence ruled the eastern parts of Asia ranging from China to the west, North Korea to the east and this country to the south. So here are the things that are likely to be seen:

AK-47s for EVERYONE!
Soviet firearms and other Soviet technologies will be easily accessible, and AK-47s can be bought for RM300. Every night will also be Molotov cocktail night.

Kirov Reporting
Kirov airships will be seen flying in the skies showing us all the necessary propaganda the Party wants us to hear.

Hammer & Sickle
We'll be driving patriotic cars! And for that I will respray my Getz red and add the Hammer & Sickle vinyl just for the Motherland!

Spread the Propaganda, ONLINE!
Even in the
virtual world when you are blogging or logging in to Facebook, remember the Party!

Battlefield control online
We'll have Dasha Fedorovich as the people's correspondent to inform us of all the glorious achievements of the Party

Defiance Review

My second favorite movie about the Holocaust in WWII after The Pianist. This time we see a combination of the new James Bond, Daniel Craig, and Wolverine's brother, Liev Scheiber. Despite not being an authentic Jew, Daniel showed much more expression as the oppressed Jewish survivor leader in this movie compared to his character as the cold-vengeance-driven 007.
The story is plot-filled based on a true story, so the whole 2 hours ++ was a basically joining Daniel (Tuvia) and his brother Liev's (Zus) story of their escapade from the prosecuting German-controlled police in Belarussia, to the final battle with the advancing Nazi German forces. The story was captivating, showing the different nature of the two brothers which lead to the further develpment of the story. Tuvia led the hundreds other Jewish survivors to survive in the forest while Zus joined the Soviet partisans to fight off the Germans face-to-face. And then there's a lot of romance, lost love, depression and anti-semitism in between. There is just always something about true story survivor movies that awes me.

KFC Again

It's KFC again for yesterday and today. I'm on the budget and not under any severe stress that forced me to consume large quantity of chickens. Nor am I under the influ ence of drugs or Colonel Sander's propaganda. It's just the fact that on weekends there is not much choice left in Senadin. It's either the same old nasi goreng or roti canai, nasi goreng or roti, burger or sayap ayam with roti.

So what did we do? We headed out town to eat chickens at Kitchen Fresh Chicken aka KFC where they serve nasi, roti, burger and sayap ayam under one roof. Saves the trouble of choosing where to eat when evrything is at one spot. It's turning into a habit and soon enough the ladies behind the counter will remember our faces and know what we are going to order. Come weekdays then it's back to the same Senadin menu, until all the shops are closed for some reason and we are forced to eat at KFC.

Now if only they give 10% discount for students and another 10% discount for being a frequent & loyal customer. Mmmm now that's good lickin' finger P: Just remember to avoid consuming too much cheezy wedges though, some of them are known to be spoilt and can cause food poisoning. Mmmmm... spoilt cheeze...

Windows XP Tricks: Perfect Invisible Folder

Ever get the need to create a folder that can even evade the Windows' "View Hidden Folders" ability? Look no further...

For this week's XP tricks, we gonna have a look-see at how to make a completely invisible folder without any third party applications. You know we can't rename a new folder with no names or with empty spacing right? Well just follow these 3 simple steps:

Step 1:
Create a new folder. Very simple.

Step 2:
Rename the folder by holding Alt and key in 0160. Use the numbers on your numpad, NOT the numbers above your QWERTY keys.

NOTE FOR LAPTOP USERS: Since laptops don't have numpad, you will have to rely on the function key. You must key in the 0160 by holding the fn key then key in fn numbers. So you will be holding both Alt + fn while keying in 0160.

Step 3:
The folder should now display a blank name. Now to further make it invisible, right click on the folder, go to Properties, then go to the Customize tab. Click on Change Icon and a new menu will appear. Scroll right until you see a few blank icons. Click on them and then OK.

Voila! A perfect hidden folder. To find it you just need to remember where you put it or simply highlight around until this blank box appear (see below). That is your hidden folder. Also it will appear as a blank space in your explorer (so no worries it's not a virus, it's the hidden folder just like your My Documents etc).

It works normally like any other normal folder, except when some of your friends wanna get nosy by activating the "View Hidden Folder" option, they will not be able to see this invisible folder because it is not hidden. It's just a normal folder with no icon and no name. Now you can rest easy knowing whatever secret stash you want to hide will remain safe.

Lorry Found Tilted at DPS Senadin Roundabout

Physics prevailed as lorry tried to defy laws of inertia and momentum by drifting around roundabout

I was fetching a fellow h3666er, Hallod, from campus so we can go to Lutong for prayers since our normal carpool driver Zimmo was AWOL (assignments perhaps?). And on my way I noticed a big yellow lorry tilted by the roadside not far from DPS (Enxin Cafe side). The usual police, cranes and sakai students crowded around the roundabout of course while the process of tilt the lorry back up continued. I guess it was a small self-accident and thankfully no Hollywood styled explosions took place since it was carrying an inflammable load. No one was injured based on the absence of blood and the tilting was a slow process due to the lack of debris and shattered windshields (trying to be like Vin Diesel trying to be a CSI in Fast & Furious 4).

Thanks to Hallod for the pic and video. I actually asked for a picture... but I guess a video is okay. And the reason the conversation in the vid sounded like we're doing something illegal is because the cops were looking at us driving around the roundabout twice.

Black Screen of Death

And we thought XP's Blue Screen of Death [?] or Vista's red variation was deadly, now comes the all not-so-new Black variation of the BSoD. Me and my mates were busy compiling 180+ x 30++ lines of numerical data at one of the labs until we had to moved out due to a class that wwill soon take place in that lab. So we packed up and moved to the next lab. There were other students in there compiling their own work. And as we were about to sit down, all the idle and active LCD screens in the lab went black.

A snapshot 5 seconds after the BSoD. I think I was so stressed at that time I just LOLed looking at others staring at their blank screens. Luckily no one got so excited to the point of screaming profanities and smashing stuff.

10 seconds later all the PCs rebooted. LAWL. Talk about near-data-death experience.
Imagine the rest of the students who didn't save or backup their last 1 hour worth of work into their pendrives. And do take into account it's already Week 11, a zero hour week where assignments and studies are crucial before finals after Week 12.

Some people seemed delighted

And as for me, I can only XD at the screen after it rebooted.

All was good a few minutes later anyways. Yay. Lesson learnt. Always turn-on the 'autosave' feature and do backup every 1 minute or less, depending on how close you are to your dateline.

Blogger Forum @ Escape

So I was invited by my buddy Suhas to a Bloggers Forum at Escape in campus today for his FTV. It was a good experience considering I was never invited to any of those Sibu blogger meetings and here I am meeting bloggers from Miri, Sabah and Sudan. We were joined by other student bloggers as well as one of the top Mirian blogger, Mr. William Ting (see blog).

Suhas' crew busy at work. Hey, wait, why is his crew an all-female?

3666 Bike Hand Over

Political watchdogs fear the hand-over of the F-Stong bike may lead to an increase in terror activities in the Senadin area

I've had the bike since, um January '08? Exclusively used for my summer course when there was no bus to go to campus. Then the bus was operational a few days into summer. After that it was on display in the living room until this now. Then the bike got a prospective buyer who frequented the house lately and had been eyeing the bike ever since. So I sold it off to the boy, Jeng, for RM1,500,000 inclusive of the padlocks. The official hand-over ceremony was attended by some of the 3666 inhabitants on 16th May with no refreshments or major publicity.

Medical Check Up

I was settling some housing matters, and since I was heading to town I sent Hallod for his medical check-up on the way. Asking the nearby Mirians (assumed Mirians) was not-so-very helpful, so we relied on our non-Mirian intuition to find the place and settled everything by 5pm.
Soon I'm gonna have a built-in Google Earth in my car to navigate through new grounds, instead of going around in circles and asking locals who may not even know their own backyard.

We were told to look for colorful red, white and blue territory

Yup, we're in the right area alright. A lot of red, white and blue being displayed on the blocks

If we know what to talk here, maybe we can get free MC... if you know what I mean

This might be useful for other students who needs a medical check up before transferring to Perth or other foreign lands. Here's the price list before you get those spectacles;
Medical checkup RM160 (but Hallod paid RM170, must be for extra services)
ECG RM30
Ultrasound scan RM40
X-ray RM35
Pap smear RM42

Windows XP Tricks: Rename Your Recycle Bin

Recycle Bin or Tong Sampah? You name it...

You realize that you can't rename your Recycle Bin right? Well here is a trick to rename it to whatever you want in 5 easy steps:

STEP 1:
Click Start and go to Run (It's below Search). Type in regedit.

STEP 2:
The Registry Editor menu will pop up, and it may be overwhelming for newbies. Fear not, you will only need to click on a few folders. All the registry are sorted out alphabetically and should be easy to find:
First, open HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT.
Next scroll down until you see CLSID folder.
Open it, and then find {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E} folder.
Open it and then find and open ShellFolder folder. You should see a menu as seen below.

STEP 3:
Now double click on Attributes and change the value from 40 01 00 20 to 50 01 00 20.

STEP 4:
Next double click on CallForAttributes and change the value to 0x00000000.

STEP 5:
Exit the Registry Editor and try right-clicking the Recycle Bin. You can now rename it freely. Enjoy.

Bintang Again for the Weekends

After the bowling gig, I had another event at Bintang Plaza for the weekends. Me and my fellow JCLA crew were helping SCCS to run an exhibition at the new wing, as well as to run a survey to check out Miri's children cancer's awareness from 11am to 4pm. All was well, and I guessed the crew learned to be more thick-faced when conducting the survey. As for me, more codings for the SPSS after compiling the questionnaires.

Funny enough, around 3pm++ the old wing of Bintang Plaza faced a blackout. After we packed up I surveyed the old wing to check out the dimly lit plaza. Only the shop lots were left unpowered, and luckily exterior lights were running. Must have been some kind of power trip or power trip test due to the ongoing constructions of the new wing.

Some shops opted to close down, but some non-power consuming shops like Guardian stayed running. Too bad I can't say the same about McTreats... And right on time when I was craving for Chocolate Sundae... nuts.

I'd buy the popcorn, but it was too dark for me to see what I'm buying.

Happy Mothers' Day! 09

I'm a dude so naturally I feel awkward writing a thank you message due to 1) A dude's nature to write straight to the point and 2) Our conservative Asian culture of "Haiya no need la put up in post, paiseh!". But I've assimilated some avant-garde into my default conservative culture so here it goes;

I would like to wish a very Happy Mothers' Day to all mothers worldwide and especially, my mom who's been there teaching and disciplining me into what I am today for my 21 years of life here on Earth. Thanks mom and I love you :)

Bowling for Soup

Went out with some buddies for the bowling competition organized by Uni Life at Bintang Plaza today, becoming the one and only all-student noobish team pitting against all-staffs teams. The result after I saw for myself a few 'masuk parit' incidents?; the one and only all-students team walked away with the biggest hamper. What a way to spend a Saturday...
