My second favorite movie about the Holocaust in WWII after The Pianist. This time we see a combination of the new James Bond, Daniel Craig, and Wolverine's brother, Liev Scheiber. Despite not being an authentic Jew, Daniel showed much more expression as the oppressed Jewish survivor leader in this movie compared to his character as the cold-vengeance-driven 007.
The story is plot-filled based on a true story, so the whole 2 hours ++ was a basically joining Daniel (Tuvia) and his brother Liev's (Zus) story of their escapade from the prosecuting German-controlled police in Belarussia, to the final battle with the advancing Nazi German forces. The story was captivating, showing the different nature of the two brothers which lead to the further develpment of the story. Tuvia led the hundreds other Jewish survivors to survive in the forest while Zus joined the Soviet partisans to fight off the Germans face-to-face. And then there's a lot of romance, lost love, depression and anti-semitism in between. There is just always something about true story survivor movies that awes me.
